Why are you discontinuing some blends?
We carefully reviewed our blend line-up and found ways to streamline our offerings in an effort to improve the overall quality and experience. We’re confident we’re offering a wide range of flavors and roast profiles with these changes, but now making it easier for customers, especially new ones, to navigate our menu and discover what they love.
What are some recommendations if my favorite blend is discontinued?
Fear not, if we removed your “go to” blend, we have some suggestions that we think you’ll enjoy just as much or maybe even more:
- Anesthesia : Recommend New Manhattan or Ambrosia
- It'z The Best : Recommend Dancing Water or Canopy of Heaven
- Code 33 : Recommend Sooo Good, Canopy of Heaven or Greater Alarm
- Decaf Swiss Water Peru : Recommend Decaf Sumatra (similar roast level though different flavor profile)
How long will I still be able to buy discontinued blends?
While supplies last.
Do you still offer Jamaican Blue Mountain? Has the price changed?
We are still offering Jamaican Blue Mountain along with other single origin varietals that are “off menu” for simplicity. The pricing of Jamaican Blue Mountain will remain the same: $7-small, $10-large, $120-pound.
What is the Swiss Water decaffeination process and why are all your decafs now offered this way?
The Swiss Water method of decaffeination is a natural decaffeination process that uses a patented water process to remove caffeine from coffee beans before roasting. Our coffee team has found the quality of this process consistently excellent and we’re excited to partner directly with Swiss Water for our green beans. You can learn more about the method and the company on the Swiss Water website: https://www.swisswater.com/.
The tasting/flavor notes have changed on some blends. Did the recipes change?
Our blend recipes have not changed. We updated the flavor profiles to be more descriptive and accurate.
Why are tea prices increasing?
We recently upgraded to Samovar Teas, a higher quality, organic and fully traceable product. Plus, we wanted to simplify our pricing as much as possible to make it easy.
How can I find out more information about calories or nutrition facts?
The calorie range listed on the menu board covers all beverages, both small and large, with customizations ranging from black coffee to sweet and creamy, and everything in between. Full nutritional information will be available in store prior to April 1st, 2017, and will include more detailed breakdown of each beverage, customization and nutritional content.
Can I still order the House Decaf or a Black Mint Tea?
Yes, a “house decaf” is half Ethiopian/half Sumatra. We will still have those beans available, though the roast profiles have adjusted slightly, so the flavors may also vary slightly. While we no longer have Black Mint Tea on the menu, you can order a Black Tea with extra mint.
How did Philz determine the revised order of darkest to lightest blends?
Rest assured there have been no changes to the blend recipes or to the blend roast degrees, so the coffee flavor profiles are the same. The shift in categorization is based on a scientific measurement of the roast degree, which hadn’t been done previously. Our Coffee Team used a laser color analyzer to measure the ground roast color of all our blends. Because many of our blends have a wide mix of light, medium, and dark roasted beans within a single blend, it’s not really that surprising that previous visual impressions didn’t entirely match the science.
Why are “Specialty Drinks” now under the category of “Iced”? Does that mean Mocha Tesoras now automatically come iced?
All of our drinks are special, and the new header more accurately describes the section. Baristas should confirm temperature of Mocha Tesoras when ordered. Mint Mojitos and Gingersnaps are assumed iced unless requested hot by a customer.
Why did we remove the hazelnut icon from the menu?
We use allergen free hazelnut oil and can say with confidence that allergens are not an issue.
Tell us more about the new Philz Iced Tea.
Updating the menu gave us an opportunity to add something new. Although all of our teas can come iced, we wanted to create something special for our iced tea phans. After lots of research and testing many recipes, we settled on something deliciously refreshing.
The Philz Iced Tea is a blend of teas (black, chamomile, and yerba mate) iced down with fresh muddled mint in the cup. We hope you enjoy this tasty treat!
